Most of the call to action aimed copy on the Internet is forceful, direct and gets to the point. Try testing a call to action that is less direct and commanding.

There are quite a lot of people out there who are no longer appreciative of being commanded to do a certain thing a certain way at a certain time. It’s better to have your call to action include words like “like” “try” and “learn more”, etc. “Download Now!” can really turn people off but “Learn More” is not quite as in your face. Just remember to avoid using words that might be confusing or overly vague. Think more about the graphics you use for your buttons on your landing page. Of course you want them to stand out and be noticed which helps to reinforce the action you want them to take. Use different colors, shapes and sizes when you are putting up buttons on your site. Always test each of these elements–use the A/B split testing method. You know how important location is with real estate, and the same applies to web pages. It is important to note, however, that most buttons and opt-in and lead generation forms are on the right hand sides of the pages.

You already know how vitally important it is to gain the trust of your readers who visit your landing page. We’ve explored some devices and different elements to help that happen. However, where you put them will play a major role with conversions. A good rule of thumb is making sure that anything that helps build trust be immediately visible. This means putting them at what is often called “eye level.” So, rather than using those testimonials at the bottom of your page, where they will feel like an after thought, put them higher up. You definitely want them to be “above the fold” 100% of the time but they should not ever feel annoying.

We have stated elsewhere that people can be willing to read long copy only if it gives them good value. So maybe the caveat here is that online readers are very quick to judge and are often not as likely to forgive. If you need to write a lengthy piece of email copy, then proof-read it multiple times to ensure nothing is wasted or unnecessary. This is good no matter what you do but your margin of error gets narrower as your copy gets longer. Once in a while you should send people an email that has more of a personal touch to it, and that helps make them feel they know you a little better. Think about what you want to do regarding contact information request such as their first name. But no matter what you need to get closer to them in your emails, and you can do that by talking directly to one person when you write. Stories can really draw the reader into your copy while accomplishing other objectives. For example, a good story helps them to relax and lower resistance to your message, plus it can illustrate important points.

You have seen questions asked in sales letter or well-written emails, and then the answers were expertly woven into the copy. That approach is designed to bring the reader into your email copy and become involved. Once they are immersed in the discussion, that is when you delve deeper into the answer and show them why it matters so much. Do not forget to make it all mesh well, and it has to work with the overall theme of that email. It will be important to make the switch rather smooth and not something that will jolt the reader.

We have talked about the need to know how you should structure your email copy, and that knowledge comes from knowing your subscribers. So if you want to up your game and elevate your business, then these are just some first steps to learn. Your emails only become more effective when you communicate in the right way to your market. Most people who do not do well with their email lists probably made mistakes early on in some way.
